Jake Owensby, Bishop of Western Louisiana

I got the opportunity recently to do some informal portraits of Jake Owensby, our Bishop. I met him and his wife, the delightful Joy for a pizza lunch, then to Mount Olivet Chapel to do the shots. I was pleased with the outcome. He chose these as his favs from the shoot, and I thought I'd share them with you.

I saw what you did . . .

I saw what you did.  You were walking from Watson Library to the Residence Halls yesterday almost 5 o’clock.  There was a spring in your step, but just as you got alongside the biology building you stopped. You turned and headed down the driveway, where you had spotted a woman struggling to navigate her manual wheelchair.   You bent over her for a moment, handed her your books, then started pushing her in the direction of Kyser Hall, way out of your way.   I saw what you did, and I’m happy I did. You’re one of our best!

Rock Chapel, Carmel, Louisiana

Down a scenic road near Mansfield, you’ll find the Rock Chapel. It was built in 1891 at a Carmelite Monastery.   Monks gathered stones from the hills nearby and joined them with a mud plaster.  Fire destroyed the larger church and Carmelite monastery in 1904, leaving the Rock Chapel.
